Faith Is Light When All You See Is Darkness

By Cathy Ramsey

2020 held much darkness for the world, for almost everyone. But, through all of this, my faith in God kept my head above water. I had my ups and downs, the downs mostly due to the isolation, but I felt God’s love through it all. I can honestly say that I felt God’s light in my heart when I saw a lot of darkness in the world.

God illuminated the nighttime sky with stars and the moon. It is so beautiful and joyful to see the light in the dark of sky. Don’t you think the sparkling little lights in the sky are representative of God’s ubiquitous and unending love for us? Don’t you feel God’s love when you gaze at His gift of the stars? The stars go on for ever and ever just like God’s caring for His children. It is not surprising that it was a bright star in the dark night that led the wise men to our Lord Jesus Christ when He came into the world to rescue us from our sins and bring us hope in His salvation.

In “Jesus Today” by Sarah Young: “As you walk with Me along your life-path, let the hope of heaven shine brightly on you, lighting up your perspective dramatically though the way ahead may be steep and difficult, the end of your journey is stunningly glorious – beyond description! And every moment you are getting closer to your heavenly home. As you look to Me in faith – trusting in My finished work on the cross – the Light of heaven’s hope shines upon you and brightens the path just before you.

In a world that may seem increasingly hopeless, remember that I am the hope of Glory. This hope is ultimately about heaven, where you will live with Me forever. But the Light of heaven’s Glory is so brilliant that some of its rays can reach you even in the present – no matter how dark your circumstances may appear. I am the Light that shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it. As you follow Me along your light-path, clothed in My righteousness, this Light shines brighter and brighter until full day.”

The path of righteousness is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.   (Proverbs 4:18)

There are so many scriptures teaching us about God’s light shining in the darkness. His message to us is very clear.

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light; those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them.   Isaiah 9:2

To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.    Luke 1:79

“The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light, and those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death, upon them a Light dawned.”    Matthew 4:16

For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.    2 Corinthians 4:6

For you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light. Ephesians 5:8

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”    John 8:12

For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light.   Mark 4:22

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.   1 Peter 2:9

A prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, please help us feel your light when all we see is darkness. Please help us remember that you are always with us in good times and bad times. Please help us hear your voice when you reassure us of your love and caring. We know you are always with us even though we sometimes do not recognize it when we are troubled or hurting. We love you, God. We feel your light in our heart through our faith. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

This is a beautiful song. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
